Turnip + Duck is an award-winning, writer-led, creator studio that originates, develops, and produces kids’ comedy which is smart, funny, inclusive, and just a tad irreverent.
Our mission is to laugh kids clever by fusing great comedy writing and lovable characters with the stuff kids all over the world are interested in - nature, animals, science, music, chemistry, art, farts, magic, roller coasters, mutant jelly babies, planets made of ice cream…!
And we do it all with a clear moral and ethical compass to ensure we’re playing our part in making the next generation a well-rounded, decent bunch of human beings.
What we do
Creator-Driven Original IP
Turnip + Duck was set up in 2016 by Colm Tobin and Aidan O’Donovan, who have been making each other laugh since they were 8 years old. We have a unique creative shorthand that, when coupled with our knowledge of the industry, makes for irresistible, original, creator-driven IP.
Story Comes First
As comedy writers, we’ve created and show ran 3 of our own original series, written over 100 scripts, and our shows have aired all over the world. Every T+D Original needs five elements; a unique hook, something clever that helps audiences grow, funny characters, lots of heart, and of course a killer theme tune!
Development Specialists
We specialise in fast prototyping and early user testing to supercharge our ideas at the most important stage. We work with writers, designers, illustrators, animators, story artists, actors, composers and musicians in bespoke development teams that suit each project, and bring them to life as pitchable products in super fast time.
Smart Co-Pro Models
Because we are not tied to any particular pipeline, our shows can take whatever forms they need to, making us a very co-production friendly studio. In the past we have worked with 2D studios, 3D specialists, nature documentarians and puppet builders to bring our ideas to life. We love to collaborate!
Financing
Ideas are easy but getting them made can be a little trickier. In less than five years of business, Turnip + Duck has helped raise funds to get three original IPs into production. We source domestic and international finance, and 32% of the costs for all work sourced in Ireland can be reclaimed thanks to the s481 tax break.
